6-10 February 2023
Lector: Jieun Kiaer
This course teaches text-mining for philological work. Text-mining programmes (e.g., Voyant) analyse large quantities of text quickly and precisely. They rapidly find repeated phrases, writers favourite collocations, and varying usages of a word, just as a traditional philologist would on basis of copious close reading. Once familiar with the software Voyant, we will analyse literary texts (short prose). We will also use Google and Naver Translate to explore how big data can help with translation. This course will help students of Korean studies to see the bigger picture faster when dealing with texts for which yet no translation is available.
Additional three 90 minutes webinars during the semester.
